Dovid organizes his army and begs his commanders to deal gently with Avshalom. In the forest of Efrayim, Dovid's veteran forces slaughter Avshalom's army. Avshalom rides his mule under an oak tree, and his head gets caught in the branches. Yoav, defying Dovid's command, kills the suspended Avshalom, devastating Dovid.
