Eliyahu confronts Achav and the prophets of Baal in a dramatic showdown on Har Carmel, proving Hashem is the true God.

In the third year of the drought, Eliyahu tells Achav to gather the people and the 450 prophets of Baal at Har Carmel. They engage in a contest to see whose deity will answer with fire; the prophets of Baal fail entirely. Eliyahu repairs Hashem's altar, and a divine fire consumes his water-drenched sacrifice, leading the people to declare 'Hashem is God!' and the drought ends.
