Yeshayahu (Isaiah) — Perek 48

Rebuke of stubborn Israel refined in the furnace of affliction, the call to flee Babylon with joy, and the proclamation of no peace for the wicked.

Hashem addresses the house of Yaakov, who swear by His name without truth, revealing that He foretold events long ago to prevent them from attributing miracles to idols. Israel's iron neck and bronze brow required refinement in the furnace of affliction for Hashem's own sake. Hashem urges His people to flee Babylon with joyful singing, proclaiming that Hashem redeemed Yaakov and brought water from the rock, though there is no peace for the wicked.

• Israel refined in the furnace of affliction for Hashem's glory
• Hashem the First and the Last, founding earth and spreading heavens
