Yeshayahu (Isaiah) — Perek 47

The humiliation and sudden fall of the arrogant virgin daughter of Babylon from her queenly throne into the dust.

The pampered virgin daughter of Babylon is ordered to come down from her throne and sit in the dust, grinding flour with millstones like a common slave. Having shown no mercy to Hashem's elderly people while arrogantly boasting 'I am, and there is none else,' Babylon will suffer catastrophic loss of children and widowhood in a single day. Her astrologers, stargazers, and sorcerers will be consumed like stubble, unable to save her from the flame.

• The proud daughter of Babylon dethroned and forced into slave labor
• Babylon's cruelty to Hashem's people punished with vengeance
• Arrogant boast: 'I am, and there is none else beside me'
• Sudden twin tragedies in a single day: widowhood and loss of children
• Astrologers, sorcerers, and stargazers powerless before consuming flames
