Yeshayahu (Isaiah) — Perek 50

The lack of a divorce bill between Hashem and Tzion, the faithful suffering of the Servant, and walking in divine light vs. self-made sparks.

Hashem asks where the bill of divorce is that dismissed Israel, or which creditor He sold them to, proving they were exiled solely for their own sins. The Servant describes how Hashem granted him an instructed tongue to sustain the weary, keeping his ear open while willingly submitting his back to beatings and cheeks to plucking without hiding from insult. Those who walk in darkness are urged to trust in Hashem rather than kindle their own doomed sparks.

• No bill of divorce or creditor: Israel exiled solely for its iniquities
• Hashem's power to dry seas, turn rivers to desert, and clothe heavens in darkness
• The Servant's morning obedience to learn and sustain the weary
• The Servant patiently enduring beatings, spit, and humiliation with confidence
• Contrast: trusting Hashem in darkness vs. doomed people lighting their own sparks
