Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah) — Perek 50

The prophecy against Bavel (Babylon) begins: it will be conquered by a nation from the north.

The greatest oppressor, Bavel, is finally judged. A nation from the north (the Medes/Persians) will attack and completely desolate the land, shattering their idols Bel and Merodach. Meanwhile, the exiles of Yisrael and Yehudah will seek Hashem weeping and form an everlasting covenant. Bavel is condemned for arrogantly rejoicing while pillaging Hashem's heritage.

• The fall of Bavel to a northern nation
• Destruction of Babylonian idols
• The return and repentance of Yisrael and Yehudah
• Vengeance for the Temple
