As Dovid nears death, Adoniyahu attempts to seize the throne, but Natan and Batsheva intervene to ensure Shlomo is anointed king.
King Dovid is old and failing. His son Adoniyahu throws a feast to declare himself king, gaining the support of Yoav and Evyatar. Natan the prophet warns Batsheva, and they urge Dovid to act. Dovid commands Tzadok and Natan to immediately anoint Shlomo at the Gichon spring, securing his succession.
