Melachim Bet (II Kings) — Perek 17

Hoshea rebels against Assyria, leading to the conquest of Shomron, the exile of the Ten Tribes, and the resettlement of the land with foreigners.

Hoshea ben Elah, the final king of Israel, secretly plots with Egypt against Shalmaneser V of Assyria. In response, the Assyrian army besieges Shomron for three years, captures the city, and exiles the Ten Tribes of Israel across the empire due to their persistent idolatry. The Assyrians repopulate the land with foreign nations (Cutheans) who are attacked by lions until they adopt a syncretic form of worship.
