Yeshayahu (Isaiah) — Perek 22

The prophecy concerning the Valley of Vision, the frivolous feasting in besieged Yerushalayim, and the replacement of Shebna with Elyakim.

Yeshayahu rebukes Yerushalayim (the Valley of Vision) for indulging in reckless feasting, slaughtering cattle, and drinking wine ('let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die') instead of repenting while under siege. The prophet announces the demotion and exile of the haughty royal steward Shebna, who carved himself an opulent tomb, replacing him with the righteous Elyakim ben Chilkiyahu as a secure peg and father to the city.
