Yeshayahu (Isaiah) — Perek 39

Chizkiyahu shows his royal treasures to envoys from Babylon, prompting Yeshayahu to prophesy the future Babylonian exile.

Merodach-Baladan, the King of Babylon, sends envoys with letters and gifts to Chizkiyahu after hearing of his miraculous recovery. Chizkiyahu welcomes the messengers and proudly displays his entire treasury, silver, gold, spices, oils, and armory. Yeshayahu rebukes the king for this vanity, prophesying that all these royal treasures and some of Chizkiyahu's descendants will be carried away into Babylonian captivity.
